CDPAP Home Care New York City

CDPAP is a Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program, but what does that actually mean? CDPAP is a program that allows you to employ whoever you want or need to be your home care assistant.

This Medicaid based, self-managed care system is organized by a state authorized home care fiscal intermediary which gives you the opportunity to select a family member, friend or neighbor ro take care of you. And no special training, licensing, or certification is required. CDPAP gives you full control over who provides your care and how it is provided.

Here are a few of the fantastic benefits of opting for the CDPAP home care program:
INDEPENDENCE

You get to be the employer and hire, train and supervise your own Personal Assistant.

PERSONAL TOUCH:

You can hire someone who understands what is important to you without requiring a special certification.

FLEXIBILITY

You choose your own services at the time & day that works best for you

Choosing your own care assistant simply means that you are in control of who is in your home and caring for you, so you can feel safe and supported.

CDPAS Home Care New York City

Now, CDPAP is the program, but CDPAS is the Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Service. Essentially, CDPAS is the specific function and services that CDPAP provides.

Now, let’s break down key points:
  • CDPAP is a Medicaid home care service designed for those who need and are eligible for home care, personal care, or skilled nursing services, and want to stay in control over who those services are provided by.
  • To use the CDPAP program, either you must be able to prove that you can make personal and hiring decisions for yourself, or you can opt to assign a “self-directing other” or SDO to make those decisions for you if you do not have the capacity to do so yourself.
  • CDPAS specifies that in order to use the CDPAP at home program, your psychological and physical needs must be assessed by a registered Medicaid nurse.
  • Then, that nurse will create your Medicaid Plan of Care; it’s crucial to understand that your chosen personal assistant will only be paid by Medicaid if they follow the instructions from the Plan of Care.
  • Your chosen assistant does not need to complete any licensing, but they will need to be cleared to work by the Medicaid Fiscal Intermediary.
  • You or your SDO are required to sign the time cards of your personal assistant to be paid by your Medicaid.
  • Medicaid is a requirement for the use of CDPAS and CDPAP for home care in New York City.

There are a few more details that you should be aware of before you decide if this is the right program for you and your family. But again, Quality Healthcare is here to help.
